How to make a choker with shells?

Want to feel your feet in the water?

Discover in this tutorial how to easily make a seashell choker. We see them everywhere since a few summers, the cowrie shells are very popular! Embellish your jewellery with a natural, golden or coloured cowrie shell to bring a bit of sun, beach and laziness in your outfit.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to assemble cowrie shells one after the other on a macramé thread to make a nice surf style jewel.

You can of course decorate your jewel by adding for example a second row of fancy chain, seed beads , heishi rings or even grigri charms for a colorful jewel that looks like you. Finish your choker with a macramé sliding knot to easily put on and take off your jewel. You can choose to let the drawstrings hang on the front to accompany your jewel or leave them behind to dress up your back. As usual, the choice is yours!

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Measure your head size and add 20 cm. Then cut 2 strands of linhasita thread.

Here we have cut 2 strands of 70 cm.
Make a knot at 30 cm

Pass a thread under the shell and the 2nd thread over the shell,

go to the knot and place your cauri correctly then string 2 seed beads

Repeat the same operation, pass a thread under the shell and the 2nd on the shell and so on ...

String a total of 8 cowries with multicoloured seed beads between two shells.

To finish nicely, place two seed beads at the end as on the picture.

How to make a noose?

Linhasita thread is perfect for making a macramé necklace because the wax prevents the knots from coming undone easily. The slip knot used is an overhand knot also known as a macramé knot. Find more precise videos on how to make this knot.

Total length of the necklace chain with mini charms eye: 39 cm

it is a simple necklace with an easy assembly,

you just have to open a ring and to make it pass in the charm then to put it on your chain

Step 2

How to thread cowrie shells to make a necklace?

Pass a thread under the shell then pass the 2nd thread over the shell.

Go to the knot and position your shell correctly then thread two seed beads.

Step 3

Repeat the same operation, pass a thread under the shell and the 2nd thread on the shell and so on...

Step 4

String a total of eight cowrie shells with multi-coloured seed beads between two shells.

To finish off nicely, place two seed beads at the end.

Step 5

How to make a noose?

Linhasita wire is perfect for making a macramé necklace, as the wax prevents the knots from coming undone easily. The slip knot used is a twisted overhand knot also known as a macramé knot. Find more precise videos for the realization of this sliding knot.

Step 6

Cut off any protruding threads. You can burn them with a lighter.
Finish your necklace by adding seed beads at the end as shown in the photo.

Bonjour j ai achet? les fournitures pour ce tuto. Or je m aper?ois que les 2 fils ne rentrent pas dans les rocailles. Est ce normal ? Ou ai je mal compris le tuto ? Merci pour votre retour.
