Tutorial: How to make macramé earrings
It's almost cocktail season... at home! But there's no reason why you can't treat yourself and set a pretty table. Delphine alias By Lilou Créa suggests you make a pretty little macramé pineapple. Here, mounted on a pair of earrings, you can use it as a brooch or macramé key ring. This irresistibly cute macramé pattern will add a splash of color to your summer outfits.
To stay true to the colors of the fruit, see the list of materials at the bottom of the page. But for a little more fun, and pineapples in original colors, take a look at all our references for linhasita waxed yarns for 0.75mm micro-macramé.
Ready to get started? Get your weaving equipment. If you don't already have it, you'll need a micro-macramé tray, as well as micro-macramé T-pins.
The steps:
Step 1: Prepare the wires and Seed beads: 2 x 40 cm olive green wire - 4 x 40cm golden yellow wire - 2 x 30 cm olive green wire - 8 Seed beads
Step 2: Place the 2 x 40cm olive wires together on the plate, centering them correctly, and attach the 4 yellow wires.

Step 3: Take the 3rd wire from the left (guide) and pass it over the 4th. Tie 2 knots with it on the guide wire. Do the same from the right. Join the 2 guides with a central knot. Take the 4th wire from the left (guide), pass it over the 3rd wire. Tie 2 knots with it on the guide. Do the same from the right.

Step 4: Insert a seed bead on the 2nd wire from the left. Pass the 1st left-hand thread (guide) over the 2nd. Tie 2 knots with the latter on the guide. Ditto from the right.

Unlock the left green guide and secure the work with a needle. Take the 2nd and 3rd yellow threads from the left and join them with a central knot. Do the same from the right, repositioning the needle towards the left bead and placing a second one towards the right bead.

Step 5: For this step, keep only the 4 middle wires and set aside the others. Insert a Seed bead on the 2 middle wires. The first wire will guide the 2nd (2 knots) and the 4th wire will guide the 3rd (2 knots). Join the 2 guides with a central knot.

Step 6: Take up all the threads. Take the 1st yellow thread on the left, pass it under the green guide and tie 1 knot on the outside. Pass the thread back under the green guide and tie an inward knot. Ditto from the right.

Step 7: Pass the 2nd yellow thread from the left (guide) over the 1st. Tie 2 knots with the latter on the guide. Ditto from the right.

Step 8: Same as step 6.
Step 9: Insert a seed bead on the 2nd and 3rd yellow wires (together), starting from the left. Ditto from the right.
Starting from the center of the work, take the 1st left-hand thread (guide) and pass it over the 1st thread coming out of the bead. Tie 2 knots with it on the guide. Take the last yellow wire on the right (guide) and pass it over the 2nd wire coming out of the bead. Tie 2 knots with it on the guide. Join the 2 guides with a central knot.

Start again from the center of the work, and do the same from the right.
Step 10: Ditto step 5
Step 11: Ditto step 6
Step 12: Pass the 2nd yellow thread from the left (guide) over the 1st. Tie 2 knots with the latter on the guide. Keep the yellow guide in hand and pass it under the green guide, making 2 knots outwards with this yellow thread on the green guide.
Ditto starting from the right.

Step 13: Insert a Seed beads on the 2 wires on either side of the central knot.
Starting from the center of the work, take the 1st wire on the left (guide) and pass it over the 1st wire coming out of the bead. Tie 2 knots with it on the guide. Do the same on the other side, starting from the center of the work.
Starting from the left-hand side of the work, take the 1st yellow thread after the green guide and pass it under the green guide. Tie 2 knots on the outside. Do the same with the next yellow thread.

Start again from the center of the work and do the same on the right-hand side.

Step 14: Position the 2 green 30 cm wires on the green guides.

Join the 2 green guides with a central knot.

Take the 2 green wires on the left of the central knot. One of them will serve as a guide. Tie 2 inward knots with the 2nd wire, then 2 outward knots. Do the same with the 2 wires to the right of the central knot. Join the 2 guides with a central knot.

With the first thread, tie 8 knots on the 2nd thread (guide), alternating 1 knot in, 1 knot out. Finish with 2 inward knots. Ditto for the 2 right-hand wires.

Take the last 2 green wires on the left. Pass the thread at the bottom of the pineapple (guide) over the 2nd thread. With the latter, tie 11 knots on the guide, alternating 1 knot to the outside, 1 knot to the inside, but finishing with 2 knots to the inside. Do the same with the 2 right-hand wires.

Step 15: Turn the pineapple upside down, cut all yellow threads to within 1 mm of the edge and burn with a lighter. Tighten each green thread and do the same. Insert an earring and you're done. Repeat for the second earring.

Your pineapple is finished! We love it! How about you?
