What is macramé?
It's an ancestral weaving technique based on the knot, said to have originated with Arab weavers in the 13th century. Derived from the Arabic "Migramah" meaning "embroidered veil".
The technique then spread to Spain and Europe.
There are different types of knot in the macramé technique:
- The flat knot is used to create jewelry, and is the most commonly used in macramé.
- The raised knot is used to make pot holders, curtains and sculptures, for example.
How do I make micro macramé?
Apart from thread, scissors, time and your hands, you don't need much equipment to get started with micro-macramé.
Ideal for long car journeys (as a passenger, of course), or long winter evenings by the fireside, and why not keep busy on the beach while sunbathing?
