How to recognize gold plating?
In France, the gold-plating hallmark is not compulsory.
However, if one is affixed, it will be square with various inscriptions inside, often bearing the manufacturer's initials.
French legislation requires a plating thickness of 3 microns of gold to qualify as gold-plated.

What is 3-micron gold plating?
Gold-plated jewelry is made from an alloy of base metals (depending on the object and its strength). This medal is made of brass coated with gold (between 14 and 16 carats) on a layer of at least 3 microns.
What should I use to clean gold-plating?
Here are a few ways, but there are others...
- Water and baking soda
Dissolve baking soda in hot water, soak a cloth, wipe clean and dry. - Breadcrumbs
Rub the jewel with breadcrumbs. - Toothpaste
Put a little toothpaste on a cloth dampened with water, rub gently, rinse with clean water, wipe with a fine cloth, then polish with a microfiber cloth.
