How to make cherry beads?

Looking for a creative and relaxing activity for your evenings or weekends? Why not try making a DIY necklace with pearl cherries and Miyuki seed beads? This project is perfect for beginners who want to make a quick-to-make piece of beaded jewelry. In this video tutorial, we'll show you how to create a necklace with pearl cherries and seed bead flowers. Pearl cherries add a touch of freshness and color to your creations. To make pearl cherries, you'll need green seed beads, 4 mm red beads and nylon thread. Cherry beads can be used as the main pendant or as a repeated motif throughout your necklace. In this DIY cherry necklace, we've alternated them with Miyuki 8/0 seed bead flowers.

Cherry seed beads are particularly popular at the moment. They're part of the current fruit and vegetable jewelry trend. This trend is also linked to the return of 70s and 2000s fashion. Fruit and vegetable motifs are seen in abundance in the latest haute-couture shows. Miyuki seed beads are a timeless classic. Together, they create a cute, retro piece of jewelry, perfect for the spring-summer season.

Miyuki rocailles are renowned for their quality and consistency, but you can use other brands of rocailles for your pearl jewelry. You can also use different-colored beads to create your flowers. Feel free to personalize your necklace! You can also make this necklace with size 11/0 seed beads. In this case, choose smaller red beads or use red 11/0 seed beads.

The video necklace measures 42 cm excluding the extension chain and 47 cm with the extension chain.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Cut 70 cm of wire. Thread a crush tube, a closed gold-plated stainless steel ring, and then thread the wire end back through the crush tube. As the tube is very thin, we're only going to flatten it, but if you ever use a larger crushable bead, it's best to use crushable bead pliers, which will fold your bead in half. Check that the wire no longer slips once the bead has been flattened. Next, you can hide the pearl with a crushable pearl cover. This is an open bead into which you insert the flattened crush bead, then close it again.

Step 2

Start by stringing the white beads that make up the base of our necklace. Don't cut the small piece of thread left over from the beginning. Thread it through the beads as well. String about 7 cm of beads.

Step 3

To make the first flower, string six beads in the color of your flower. Then thread through the first bead. Place the flower against the white beads, but not too tightly, otherwise the beads will curl up. Next, we'll make the heart of the flower. To do this, thread in a gold bead. Place the bead as if in the center of the flower, and thread through a bead opposite the bead from which the thread exits.

Step 4

String 10 white beads. Next, string two green beads, two red beads, and iron the thread through the two green beads. You've made your first cherry.

Step 5

Thread 10 white beads again and make a new flower. Repeat the previous steps, alternating flowers and cherries. The pattern consists of 5 pairs of cherries and 6 flowers in all. With the materials in this tutorial, you can make up to 7 pairs of cherries and many more flowers. Remember to lengthen the thread at the start if you're making more than the pattern.

Step 6

Thread 7 cm of white pearls at the end of the necklace. To make the other part of the clasp, thread your crush tube. Pass the thread through the closed ring and back through the crush tube. Flatten the crush tube and check that the thread no longer slips. Pass the thread through a few beads, then recut it. Then add the bead cover.

Step 7

Attach the carabiner clasp on one side and the extension chain on the other, using open rings. If you wish, you can shorten the chain, but preferably use shears to cut it, as stainless steel is a very hard metal to cut.
