How to make dangling earrings with bugles?

Give yourself a well-deserved creative break with this beaded earring making project. Making your own pearl earrings is a rewarding and relaxing activity. This DIY (Do It Yourself) trend allows you to customize your accessories according to your taste and style, and allows you to make unique pieces. Don't hesitate to get into DIY jewelry to discover the joy of designing your own creations and express your personality through homemade pearl earrings. To help you, we offer you this tutorial to make Miyuki earrings with bugles.

Bugle beads are small tubular glass beads. In the case of Miyuki, they originate from Japan. Their cylindrical shape and smooth appearance make them ideal for jewelry making, especially dangling earrings. They are available in a wide variety of sizes, colors and finishes, offering a wide choice to suit all tastes and styles. For this tutorial, we used 3mm bugle beads and 15/0 Miyuki seed beads.

The chandelier that supports the beads is made of gold-plated stainless steel. Stainless steel is a metal that does not oxidize. It is a metal that guarantees a long life to the jewel. To attach the beads to this support, we used 2 different wires: A golden thread to fix the beads and decorate the support and a sewing thread to make soft beaded bangs. Be careful, the sewing thread tends to knot very easily. Try to keep your work on the table when attaching the beads to reduce the risk of knots.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Cut 30 cm of gold wire. Tie it to the candlestick with a double knot, at the first hole near the circle. Pass the thread back through the hole in front. Go through the hole opposite to make the first line of gold thread on the candlestick. From behind, pass through the next hole.

Step 2

Put on a flugelhorn and go into the hole in front of the circle. Go into the next hole from the back. Go into the opposite hole without threading a new bead.

Step 3

You will continue to alternate beadless and beaded strands except for the center: In the center, you will make two rows without beads. Because of the fan shape of the candlestick, you can't put beads in each row.

Step 4

Tie a double knot in the back, then cut the wires 1 mm from the knot and glue the knots and wire ends to the candlestick.

Step 5

Let's move on to the beaded fringe with the sewing thread. Cut 1.5 m of thread and tie it to the first hole with a double knot. Keep 10 to 15 cm of thread end. Thread 3 bugles and 1 rocaille 15/0, 5 times. Finish with a rocaille. Then pass the needle through all the beads except the last bead which is used to hang the beads. Be careful not to pass the needle back through the thread because you risk making a knot. Tighten the fringe but do not force it. It should not curl up. Then go through the next hole and repeat this step. If your thread becomes too short, tie it with a double knot and hide it in the previous fringe. Then tie a new thread.

Step 6

Once the beads are attached, add an ear stud with a joining ring.
