How to make Magic Carpet weaving?

Magic Carpet or Caterpillar weaves, which are very similar, are basically loops of beads set on a Seed beads base woven in square stitch. Once again, there are many different variations of these weaves, as the bead jewelry world is very inventive.

In this video, we'll show you how to make a classic Magic Carpet weave, followed by a visually inspired but totally different version with a plastic canvas base for embroidery! Purists will probably want to stick to the first version of the weave, but for those wishing to save a little time and make a thinner bracelet, the plastic canvas will be ideal for this tutorial. The 8/0 beads used as a base are thicker and less suitable for gluing onto a cuff. If you choose to make the base of the bracelet from Seed beads, you may prefer to make a beaded clasp or use weaving tips for 8/0 seed beads.

Square stitch is a technique that achieves a result similar to loom weaving, but without a loom. All you need is thread and a needle. Here, we've chosen fireline thread for its strength and rigidity.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

The principle is then to alternate sets of Miyuki or Toho seed beads with or without PureCrystal bicones 3 and 4 mm and cover the base of beads or plastic canvas so that they are no longer visible. For that place yourself in the last bead of the weaving but the thread coming out inside the weaving, thread 7 beads of seed beads 11/0 or 15/0, pass in this same bead by the opposite hole and take out a bead further. Then thread 3 seed beads, 1 spinning top and 3 seed beads and pass through this second bead so as to form another loop and come out in the third bead and so on.

Step 2

To cover the canvas you are more free, the main thing is to have a mixture of pearls and PureCrystal spinning tops and to cover it entirely

Step 3

For a seaside style we have fixed shells on the bracelet. The hole in these shells is very small and it's hard to get a needle through. Use a hand chuck, a small drill or anything that will allow you to dig inside and enlarge the hole, otherwise try to thread the nylon thread without the needle. Spread these shells evenly over your bracelet and attach them before completing with the beads.

Step 4

Once the piece of canvas is embroidered with the beads, glue it with jewellery glue on a cuff bracelet, preferably with edges for a nicer finish. And that's it, you've made a unique piece of jewellery for this summer!

This is very hard to understand, as it makes very little sense in English. It seems like a useless auto-translator was used.Is there a video to watch?

Hi Adele, we are very sorry for that. We do use an auto-translator on tutorials because we have thousands of them. Thanks to that, our translators have all their focus on product pages translation. We understand your disappointment, and we take it in account for future decisions considering translation. There is a video tutorial on the page, you should see it appear if you agreed to cookies. Otherwise, the youtube cookie doesn't load and the video doesn't appear. Regards.
