Pattern felt Christmas Tree decoration Christmas Scents

What to do with felt for Christmas?

Decorating your tree with DIY felt Christmas decorations will be a breeze this year. You can download and print the free felt Christmas decoration patterns by clicking on the link below the picture of the pattern. In this tutorial, we show you how to sew and decorate the felt with beads. 3 models on the theme of Christmas scents are available. You will be able to sew a felt orange, embroider star anise with seed beads and make a felt cinnamon stick.

These felt Christmas ornaments can both decorate and scent your tree. Dry your orange and clementine peels on a radiator or in the oven at a very low temperature and slip them into the small decorations to give them a nice scent. You can also add cinnamon and cloves or slip in a ready-made potpourri.

This Christmas craft was made for the magazine J'aime créer spécial Fêtes 2021. Feel free to check out their new releases. We also have many other tutorials and articles to help you prepare a creative Christmas.

We hope you like these handmade Christmas decorations with felt. Feel free to send us pictures of your Christmas trees decorated with our Christmas tutorials on social networks. We are on instagram @perlesandco, Facebook @Perles & Co and TikTok

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Pattern felt Christmas Tree decoration Christmas Scents : Step 1

Orange Felt:

Transfer the circles onto the dark orange felt using tracing paper. Do the same with the small light orange circles. On the light orange circles, mark the corners of the orange segments as markers.

Step 2
Pattern felt Christmas Tree decoration Christmas Scents : Step 2

Embroider orange beads to design the orange wedges. To do this, cut 1 m of light brown embroidery thread, separate the strands of thread to keep only two, thread them on a fine needle that passes through the beads and make a double knot at the end. Stitch to the back of the light orange felt only. Thread enough beads to embroider the entire line and stitch to the next marker. Return to the front by stitching to the next mark and complete the line. Continue until you have embroidered all the quarters.

Step 3

In the center, embroider a circle of transparent beads, embroidering them two by two.

Step 4
Pattern felt Christmas Tree decoration Christmas Scents : Step 4

Attach the two felt circles together by embroidering in back stitch. The thread is made of 3 strands, so separate your thread in half in its thickness as it is made of 6 strands. Make a double knot at the end. Stitch on the back of the dark orange circle and go through both layers of felt. Stitch a little further to form the first stitch. Go back to the front and count the length of the second stitch then stitch to the end of the first stitch. The second stitch is done. Continue this way, going all the way around the orange.

Step 5

Cut 15 cm of natural thread and fold it in half. Make a knot at the end. Place it as shown in the picture and then place your embroidered part on top, face forward.

Step 6

Embroider all around in festoon stitch with 3 strands of thread. Make a double knot at the end of the thread and stitch the needle at 2 mm from the edge, between the two dark orange parts to come back to the embroidered side. Stitch on the back at the same level, 3 mm from the edge. The end of the thread should go under the needle. Tighten. Stitch again at 3 mm on the back 5 mm further and pull on the thread. The thread should again pass under the needle. Continue embroidering all the way around. When there is only 4 cm left, stuff the decoration with absorbent cotton or fabric scraps. Add, if you wish, dried orange peel, cinnamon and cloves. Close with a knot between the two parts.

Felt Star Anise:

Transfer the circles to the felt with tracing paper. Also offset the markings without pressing too hard so that the pencil does not show once the elements are embroidered.

Step 8
Pattern felt Christmas Tree decoration Christmas Scents : Step 8

Make the inside of the star anise branches with a chain stitch. Separate the dark brown thread to keep only 3 strands of 50 cm. Pass them over a needle and make a double knot at the end. Stitch on the back at one of the markings near the center. Stitch again right next to it and don't pull too much on the thread. Stitch on the back at the higher mark and pass the needle through the loop you created. Tighten a little. Stitch just above to go back to the back of the design. Then move on to the next 5 chain stitches.

Step 9
Pattern felt Christmas Tree decoration Christmas Scents : Step 9

Work all the way around the star anise with a back stitch as explained for the orange. Use 3 strands of the light brown yarn.

Step 10
Pattern felt Christmas Tree decoration Christmas Scents : Step 10

Then embroider the beads according to the markings. Embroider them two by two.

Step 11
Pattern felt Christmas Tree decoration Christmas Scents : Step 11

As for the orange, join the two parts with the scallop stitch and stuff the decoration before finishing the trick. Don't forget the tab so you can hang your ornament on the tree.

Step 12
Pattern felt Christmas Tree decoration Christmas Scents : Step 12

Felt Cinnamon Stick:

Cut a 5x7 cm piece of felt. Roll it up, add the tab and sew the last two rounds together with a back stitch.
