Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini

How do I weave brick stitch with Hama beads?

Hama beads weave exactly like regular beads. They are larger than the 11/0 delicas you may be used to and have a larger hole. Other beads are also larger than 11/0 delicas, including 10/0 delicas and 8/0. The advantage ofusing Hama beads to teach your childto weave is that they are easy to string and they don't break into little pieces of glass when you step on them, unlike miyuki.

Moreover, you can use them both for an introduction to weaving and as ironing beads. After all, that's their primary use! So you can do 2 activities with the same beads.

If you are not familiar with Hama ironing beads, they are plastic beads that you melt and place on a support with small (non-pointed) pins. Once your child has made the shape he or she wanted by arranging the coloured beads , you place greaseproof baking paper on top and then iron them with a regular iron. The beads will melt on the surface and fuse together. You can then remove the creation from the pinned holder and the beads will hold together.

Hama beads are also available in various sizes. In this tutorial we used Hama Mini beads. These are the smallest size of Hama beads. They measure about 2.5mm in diameter by 2.8mm in height. The cat will measure about 22mm wide by 29mm high.

You can of course try other sizes of Hama beads but the cat will probably be too big to make a hair clip like this.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 1

Print out the diagram. Cut 1 m of thread and thread it onto a needle. String 2 brown beads. These are the first two beads in the line indicated by the arrow on the diagram.

Step 2
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 2

Place the beads 15 cm from the end of the string. Hold the end to prevent the beads from falling off. Pass the needle through the first bead strung, on the side from which the end of the thread emerges. Tighten.

Step 3
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 3

The 2 beads have come together, but to make sure they hold together, we're going to go around the 2 beads again. Pass through the second one. Be careful, during all the weaving, if ever the thread appears over the beads, it is because you made a mistake when you went through the beads. Observe the photo carefully.

Step 4
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 4

Pass through the first bead again.

Step 5
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 5

Then again in the second one. Tighten the thread without forcing it.

Step 6
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 6

Thread a third brown bead through the second as shown in the photo.

Step 7
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 7

Return to the third bead.

Step 8
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 8

We're going to go around again to connect the beads. Go through the second one.

Step 9
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 9

Then again in the third. Continue weaving following the pattern and repeating steps 6 to 9. You still have to weave 3 brown, 1 beige, 1 black, 1 beige, 1 black beads. Mark the beads on the diagram as you go along.

Step 10
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 10

To start a new line, always thread 2 beads at a time. Pass the needle under the thread connecting the beige bead and the black bead of the previous line. Pull on the thread to stick the new beads against the bead line but without forcing.

Step 11
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 11

Pass through the black bead and tighten. Your beads are now attached. You have just made a Brick Stitch augmentation.

Step 12
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 12

Go back to the beige bead as you will need to add a missing bead.

Step 13
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 13

Thread a beige bead and pass through the first beige bead. Then go back into the black bead from below.

Step 14
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 14

Thread a black bead and pass the needle under the thread connecting the next beads in the first row. Pull slightly so that the black bead gets stuck against the beads.

Step 15
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 15

Pass the needle through the new black bead and tighten. Continue weaving the beads in the second row one by one following the pattern and repeating steps 14 and 15.

Step 16
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 16

At this point, return to the previous brown bead.

Step 17
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 17

Then in the rose.

Step 18
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 18

Thread 2 brown beads and pass the needle under the thread connecting the two pink beads.

Step 19
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 19

Attach the second brown bead and continue weaving the line.

Step 20
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 20

Here you have two methods for adding the bead. You can either pass the needle behind the thread of the previous bead and then go back into the bead and tighten, or you can add the bead as in steps 6 to 9.

Step 21
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 21

Then begin weaving line 4 with 2 beige beads by making an increase. Continue to follow the pattern using the technique you have learned until the next key step.

Step 22
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 22

We are now going to make a Brick Stitch decrease. Thread two beige beads and pass the needle under the thread connecting the penultimate and penultimate bead of the previous line. Tighten and iron in the second beige bead.

Step 23
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 23

The beads are then spread out, they must be brought together. Pass through the other bead as shown in the photo.

Step 24
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 24

Then go back into the second bead and tighten. The beads are now side by side.

Step 25
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 25

At this point, add a bead using one of the two methods explained in step 20. Then add another brown bead using steps 6 to 9.

Step 26
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 26

Start weaving the last line of beads with an increase.

Step 27
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 27

Add the last bead on the end and then go back into the third bead to continue the line.

Step 28
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 28

Once the cat is finished, you can stop the thread by passing it several times through the beads in diagonals as shown in the photo. Make at least 3 diagonals of 3 beads. The thread will then be stuck and you can cut the remaining thread. Do the same thing with the beginning of the thread.

Step 29
Weaving pattern Brick Stitch Child with beads Hama Mini : Step 29

Put a little glue on the tray of the barrette and stick the cat on it, centering it. Wait 24 hours for the glue to dry before touching it.
