How to make a punch needle cushion?
Which canvas to use for the punch needle?
The creator of the blog @PurpleJumble realizes a punch needle cushion in the colors of the rainbow.
The technique of the punch needle has the wind in its sails, it allows to realize all kinds of decorative objects.
In this tutorial, the idea is to create a sensory and decorative object that stimulates the sight and touch of your baby by varying the effects, creating different volumes while bringing a touch of color in its space.
Thanks to Valerie for this tutorial.
Steps :
Step 1: Start by drawing the rainbow on the canvas by shifting the prepared template (just print it). Draw it on both sides of the canvas because both sides will be embroidered. Place the fabric in the embroidery drum, tightening the screw tightly to prevent the fabric from slipping and relaxing.

Step 2: For the 1st bow, take a pretty coral color, so that this part is in relief, it is necessary to make buckles. To do this, make a line of flat dots around the edge of the bow to draw it, then turn the drum and embroider flat stitches on the underside of the canvas. Thus the loops will be visible on the right side of the canvas, then retrieve the drum.

Step 3: For the 2nd bow, use a nice orange color and choose another style of dots: flat dots, embroidered vertically, to fill the full width of the bow. To do this, leave the drum in place, make small flat dots to mark the outline of the bow. Then embroider the flat stitches.

Step 4: For the 3rd bow, opt for wool, to create a different effect of cotton yarn. Use a thick wool and make curls, as for the 1st bow. With wool, the result is completely different than with coral cotton yarn and it allows to have a very different texture.
Trace the edge of the bow with flat dots, then embroider the loops after turning the drum.

Step 6: For the next bow, use a yarn of a pretty green water color and this time embroider classic flat dots, to change precedents. Put the drum back in place and embroider flat stitches with the green cotton thread.

Step 7: For the last part of the rainbow, the central arch, use a light blue cotton thread and test a new type of dots: cut-out loops. As for other bows filled with loops, make the loops by embroidering flat dots on the underside of the canvas, then flip the drum back to the place. To obtain longer loops, use an adjustable needle, positioning it to the maximum length.

Step 8: After filling the bow with loops, cut them with scissors. You must choose scissors that cut well to avoid pulling on the loops and risk to undo the embroidery. That's how you get that fluffy effect!

Step 9: And here is the finished embroidery part. Take care of finishing before going to the sewing part to make a pretty blankie.
Step 10: Cut the threads protruding from the back of the embroidery, after making knots at the ends to hold the threads and prevent them from breaking.
Step 11: Undo the embroidery drum to remove the canvas.

Step 12: To consolidate the embroidery, apply fusible fabric on the underside of the embroidery, keeping the stitches. Cut out a square of cloth and fix it with an iron.

Step 13: Once the fusible fabric is secure, cut the punch needle fabric around the rainbow leaving a margin of about 4 cm. Then cut the velvet fabric: to get the same shape, place the embroidery on the velvet slip and cut out.

Step 14: To sew these 2 coupons, place them side by side and hold them by stitching pins. Put them flush with the embroidery to sew without revealing the embroidery fabric. Stitch by machine or by hand leaving an opening of about 10 cm.

Step 15: After you finish sewing, cut the excess fabric and fabric around the rainbow to keep only about 2 cm. And create the 2 angles (that is to say, we cut at an angle, which allows to keep the shape once the work is returned).

Step 16: You can then return the book through the opening and being careful not to pull the embroidery. It's a delicate step, you have to be thorough.
Then insert the padding and once the blanket is well filled, end up enclosing the opening by sewing invisible dots by hand.
This is a pretty decorative blanket, full of colors and textures that your baby will be able to discover with pleasure!
