Between the material of the threads, their diameters and their colors, it is sometimes difficult to know which thread to use to make micro-macramé or macramé. Among the countless colors, we chose to make a point with you on the golden and silver threads.
You are rather golden team or silver team? It doesn't matter! Among our list, there is inevitably the thread that you need!
Before selecting your yarn, we suggest you take stock of your future creation. To do so, answerthe followingquestions:
If you answered YES to all these questions, you need a yarn specifically made for micro macramé. The Brazilian brand Linhasita specializes in yarn for micro macramé. These are abrasion and water resistant threads. They are coated with a thin layer of wax that allows the knots to hold more easily.
Linhasita macramé thread is a synthetic thread that can be melted with the flame of a lighter. This replaces the use of glue and is a stronger finish if done correctly: the melted end of the thread must be fused to the final knot.
Linhasita threads come in gold, silver, gold and silver combined, in 1.2 mm and 1.4 mm. You will need to use beads with a hole size larger than this diameter.
There are also a few other threads that might suit you, all available in 1 mm.
If you answered NO to the first two questions in the preamble and YES to the last two, then you can use non-wax coated wires.
Even if they are not specifically made for micro-macramé, they are relatively strong wires for jewelry. Caution! Only if you do not use them alone. It is better to mix them with other Linhasita or nylon braided wires.
These are not wires made for macramé, but they can be used inside a macramé creation if it is composed mostly of wires made for macramé.
Choose Lizbeth brand yarns, Au Ver à Soie yarns, and some other polyester and nylon yarns. Avoid threads that fray too easily.
You can also use bamboo thread which has a slightly golden effect. Please note: this 100% bamboo thread does not melt, so you will need to use glue to stop the thread.
If you answered NO to all the questions, it means that you are not looking for yarn to make a macramé jewel, but are making a DIY decoration project. In this case, you can use yarn that knits or crochets, such as Rico Design's "Ricorumi Lame " or Rico Design's "Creative Lame", and mix them with other macramé yarns for decoration. The 4 mm air-radius macramé spools can be used on their own.
Why choose between gold and silver? We suggest you mix tastes and colors in the tutorials of our jewelry collection Entre Ombre et Lumière.
