Silkworm embroidery thread.
Soie d'Alger is an assembly of 7 strands (easily separable), made from schappe silk (worsted silk).
The brilliance of this yarn is moderate.
It has several qualities : it doesn't fray, it's easy to thread onto the needle, and its material is soft, supple and light, yet still provides sufficient coverage.
Another advantage recognized by users: it doesn 't twist.
Perfect for all needlework applications: traditional embroidery, counted stitch, cross-stitch, bobbin lace, miniature doll making.
What's more, it's easy to split, enabling a multitude of applications in embroidery on canvas and silk gauze.
This style of thread is used by dressmakers (as an effect thread for topstitching), embroiderers, knitters and weavers, carpet makers, restorers, etc.
