In France, the gold-plating hallmark is not compulsory.
However, if it is affixed, it will be square with various inscriptions inside, often bearing the manufacturer's initials.

What is 3-micron gold plating?
Gold-plated jewelry is made using an alloy of base metals (depending on the object and its strength). This charm is made of brass coated with gold (between 14 and 16 carats) on a layer of at least 3 microns.
What should I use to clean gold plating?
Here are a few tips, but there are others...
Dissolve baking soda in hot water, soak a cloth, wipe clean and dry.
Rub the jewel with breadcrumbs.
Put a little toothpaste on a cloth dampened with water, rub gently, rinse with clear water, wipe with a fine cloth, then polish with a microfiber cloth.
