Rudraksha beads are natural seeds from the Rudraksha tree (Elaeocarpus), also known as Shiva's tears. Ideal for creating ethnic and spiritual jewelry, these natural beads add an authentic, organic touch to your handmade bracelets, necklaces and malas.
Legend has it that Shiva, during a long meditation, was touched by the sufferings of the world and shed tears which, as they fell to earth, gave birth to a tree. The fruit of this tree, as it dries, reveals seeds with a characteristic shape, streaked with natural facets. These seeds can have from one to fourteen faces, depending on the specimen, with the most common having five. Each seed is unique, shaped by nature, with a textured surface and a warm brown hue that varies slightly from piece to piece.
These 4.5 mm natural beads have a hole for easy threading onto wire, cord or cable. Their small size makes them versatile and easy to combine with other materials.
What to do with Shiva tears?
For creative ideas, these seeds lend themselves well to making a Rudraksha beaded bracelet or a mala bracelet with a macramé sliding knot. They combine naturally with natural stones, wooden beads or shells for creations with a bohemian or spiritual spirit. They can also be incorporated into long necklaces or pendants by combining them with waxed or cotton cord.
