What are wire protectors?

Made by :Tiffanie Perles Co

The wire protectors are small "U" shaped accessories in which you pass your wire. They allow you to finish a necklace or a bracelet in a more aesthetic and professional way. These tips will protect the wire from friction due to the clasp and thus prevent your wire from being damaged too quickly.

When should I use wire ends?

To finish a bracelet or necklace, you will need two wire protectors. What is the wired wire? It is a metal wire braided with a nylon protection. These tips can be used with both wired wire, weaving wire or nylon fishing line.

However, choose your wire carefully according to your project. The end caps protect the clasp from chafing, but do not prevent the wire from getting damaged in other places. If the wire is not suitable for your design, it will not affect the life of your jewelry.

Typically, these tips are used on simple designs with beads strung on wire, but you can also use them as tips on Miyuki brick stitch earrings or other designs.

How to use the wire protectors

There are several sizes of wire guards. Choose them according to the diameter of the wire you will use for your DIY creation.
On the product sheet of the wire protectors, it is indicated the recommended wire size. You can choose wire guards that are larger than the wire you are using. For example, for a 0.45 mm wire end, you can use it with 0.30 mm. The reverse is not possible.
The wire protectors allow a nicer finish andextend the life of the jewel.

In our video, Tiffanie shows you how to use wire guards to close a jewel. Watch the video below to learn how to do it right!

Tutorial steps

Step 1
What are wire protectors? : Step 1

Thread a squeeze bead, then the wire guard by passing the wire through the first tube of the wire end cap, around the U-shaped semicircle, and out through the second tube. (00:00:56)
Next, thread the clasp ring or your clip. Place the clasp in the center of the wire guard and thread the wire back through the bead to be squashed. (00:01:18)

Step 2

Slide the squeeze bead onto the base of the wire guard. Flatten it with a special crush bead pliers. These pliers will flatten the bead by making a fold in the center of the bead. The wire will be trapped on either side of the fold. (00:01:37)
Then, using the other notch on the pliers, fold the crush bead in half. This method traps the wire without damaging it, as flattening it with simple flat pliers can damage it. (00:02:00)

Step 3
What are wire protectors? : Step 3

Add, if you wish, a pearl cover to hide the pearl to be crushed. It will make the result more neat. (00:02:11)
Then pass the piece of wire back through the beads for a few centimeters.

Bonjour ?
