Brass seed beads, size 11/0 (approx. 1.7 mm in the direction of the hole, 2.3 mm in diameter).
A size 10 needle and size D thread are recommended.
The edges of these beads can be sharp, so it's best to use a strong wire like Fireline, and to avoid over-pulling or rubbing the wires near the bead hole.
