This hand-operated bow drill is an ancestral tool used to create DIY costume jewelry! It's considered the ancestor of the drill.
This original hand drill has been used for centuries by jewellers and craftsmen.
It can be used to drill leather and wood quickly and easily. With a little more patience, you can also drill through metals such as 925 silver or brass plates up to 0.5 mm thick, as well as polymer clay and resin.
How to use this pump drill?
1. Choose your drill bit and insert it into the chuck.
2. Mark the spot you want to drill and position the pump drill over it.
3. Turn the handle so that the cord winds around the central axis. The cord should be sufficiently twisted
4. Pump by moving the handle up and down. This movement causes the drill bit to rotate and the hole to form gradually.
The movement should be smooth and without jerks.
The pump drill requires only one hand to operate, so you can hold your workpiece with your other hand to stabilize it.
It may sound complicated, but with a little practice, it's easy to use. To make sure you get it right, check out our video on how to use this hand drill!
