How to make a pair of sneakers?

The sneaker is the trendy accessory of summer ! Easy to wear whether in shorts, pants or skirt, your pair of sneakers will not leave you all summer especially if you made them!

For 100% DIY shoes, follow this simple tutorial to sew sneakers by machine or by hand . made with Prym insoles . It's up to you to choose the fabric you like: Liberty , wax , glittery fabric , plain cotton , linen , etc.

In this step by step, we present the steps of making sneakers for sewing machine . But you can also simply sew the sneakers by hand (from step 5, the steps of the realization are identical for both techniques). You can download the pattern of espadrilles before starting (to print in A4 format).

Version 1 - sewing at the sewing machine

STEP 1

Overlay the outer fabric and lining fabric in place.

Then, put the pattern of the desired shoe size on the fabric and cut leaving a seam allowance of 1 cm.

Important: Be sure to reverse the front of the foot for right and left shoes.

2ND STEP

Sew the heel along the sewing pattern. In the middle of the lower seam, leave an opening of about 5 cm.

Then, block the seam at both ends. Work the top of the foot identically, leaving an opening about 5 cm at the bottom end of the side seam, then block the seam at each end.

STEP 3

Crimp the sewing back into the rounds and cut it diagonally in the corners.

STEP 4

Flip the pieces of cloth. With the help of a chisel (closed), shape the angles and seams, then iron to mark the seams. Close the openings by sewing by hand.

STEP 5

Attach the toe and heel to the sole with pins to verify proper positioning while making sure to maintain the proper width at the front tip. The toe should overlap the heel about 1.5 cm. Remove the toe.

STEP 6

Sew the heel on the sole at the scallop point. This one starts on the side edge. Use about 1 meter of wire.

STEP 7

How to make a festoon point?

Thread the thread into the needle and tie a knot at the other end. Pass the needle through the sole and the fabric. Pull the thread until the knot disappears into the soleplate.

STEP 8

Puncture the needle from below through the soleplate and fabric about 0.5 cm away while guiding the fancy yarn behind the needle and pulling the needle. Well pull the thread after each point.

STEP 9

Repeat this movement every 0.5 cm. Once the heel is sewn, pull in the end of the thread, knot and cut.

STEP 10

Reposition the toe on the sole so that it overlaps the heel, and also attach it to the scallop point, while making sure to maintain the correct width.

STEP 11

Put on the shoe and check that it fits the foot well. Make the necessary adjustments at the open side seam. Then sew the side seams at the stitching point. It's over !

Version 2 - hand stitching

Iron the outer fabric and the iron-on heat-resistant liner on the back (iron set to 3 / cotton). Cut the doubled fabric without seam allowance and proceed as indicated from step 5.
